Heat - Neil McCauley's Featureless White Coffee Cup

In this scene from Heat, Neil McCauley played by Robert De Niro, sits down for a heart to heart chat with Chris played by Val Kilmer.

Chris has had a rough night and has slept on McCauley's floor. McCauley pours himself and Chris some black coffee in some just-below, medium-sized coffee cups. They are slightly bigger than an espresso cup. Even though McCauley has only one finger through the handle, you can see there is comfortably enough room for two fingers.

The cups are a pure reflection on McCauley's character. Everything is economical. Minimalist. McCauley has no time for nostalgia or sentiment.

It's here he delivers one of the best lines in movie history about having 'no attachments, nothing in your life that you are not willing to walk away from in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner'.

So of course these cups have to be bland. It's very important that these are the blandest cups in all of movie history because McCauley would not want to own any cups of value or extreme beauty that would conflict with his ideology. He would not think twice about leaving these cups behind.

Alternatives

I've looked for the nearest comparison to this mug and I've established this one is very close. A 400ml Bistro Coffee Cup set from Wayfair, set of 6 for 36.99 GBP.

Props

Sadly I couldn't find any original mugs from the movie Heat online, but I found a signed photo of Val Kilmer and some poster art work on eBay. 200 USD and 6 GBP.

Lastly

One of the best Travel Location blogs you'll read on Heat is this one here. It's by L.A Taco and revisits all the locations from the film 24 years on.
